Viva La Art! Viva Japan!

A project to help with Tohoku recovery efforts that I’m personally taking part in is the Viva La Art “Operation Tomodachi” charity art auction, which is going on NOW online, with a live event in Tokyo on Sunday, April 17th from 6:00pm at Hatos Bar in Meguro-ku.

LIVE ONLINE AUCTION: 8am (PST) Saturday, April 16th - 8am (PST) Sunday, April 17th | LIVE PHYSICAL AUCTION: Hatos Bar/Gallery, Tokyo, Japan, 6pm-12am (JST) April 17th

I am very excited and honored to send an original piece of artwork to this event. Titled “Nagaba”, it is a limited edition digital-hanga work inkjet-printed on handmade cotton paper. My thanks goes out to Jay Horiuchi, the producer of this event, for inviting me to participate!

“Nagaba” is a word in the Sendai dialect for the Japanese word “nakama” (friend, buddy, fellow group member). The motif is based on traditional kokeshi wooden dolls from the Tohoku region, which was devestated by the eartquake and tsunami of 3.11.

If you are in Tokyo stop by Hatos Bar to see the works, meet some great people and have delicious food & drinks. For those of us not in Tokyo, check out the auction site and bid on one or more of some great artwork, including Stephan Bucher of Monster of the Day and 344 Design fame! Shizuoka is also well represented with artwork from Harumi Niwano, Miki Kobayashi, Denise Baumgartner and myself.
