Eho-maki "Lucky Roll"

Tomorrow, February 3rd, is Setsubun in Japan. A time for throwing beans and unsuspecting cats (ok, throwing beans at cats not normal, but someone has to play the oni/devil) and eating a big sushi roll while facing the “lucky” directions while laughing but not uttering a word.

We got the sushi and beans, now just to figure out how to put an oni-mask on our cats…

For the curious, more on Setsubun:

I would love to see an oni mask on a cat.
Almost eight years in Japan and I’ve never done setsubun.

If it’s a food-related custom, we pretty much do them all.
I’ll try to get a photo of a masked cat, if we’re successful ;)
